Stroke and Heart Failure Program Coordinator
Broward Health Imperial Point
Why are you passionate about cardiac care?
Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women of most ethnicities. As a health care professional, I am passionate about making an impact on this growing global issue.
What is one piece of advice you give to patients in order to stay heart healthy?
Prevention is better than cure, which is why controlling the modifiable factors is significant when it comes to cardiac care. Rather than looking at the long, overwhelming list of lowering blood pressure and cholesterol, losing weight, exercising regularly, eating healthy diet, quitting smoking, reducing stress, and limiting alcohol and caffeine, choose one aspect at a time. Create short-term, realistic and attainable goals and build them onto long-term goals.Monisha John is a nurse practitioner and the Stroke and Heart Failure Program Coordinator at Broward Health Imperial Point. She has over 10 years of experience in various fields of health care, including primary care, internal medicine and nursing education, but she found her true passion for cardiology working in an acute care cardiac step-down/telemetry unit. Realizing heart disease is a leading cause of death around the world, Monisha felt an urge to work with patients suffering from preventable conditions. She uses her experience to assist patients in creating short-term goals for long-term health. Monisha also runs various support groups for patients and their families.
